NDIS Domestic Assistance, also called NDIS home and living support, is funded under the Core Supports – Assistance with Daily Life category of the NDIS. Daily Life Assistance helps participants with household tasks they cannot safely complete due to disability, supporting safety, hygiene, independence, and overall wellbeing. Here are 10 common household tasks that may be funded under NDIS Domestic Assistance.

1. General House Cleaning

General house cleaning is funded if it is considered reasonable and necessary for the participant’s daily living. It supports workers vacuum and mop floors, dust surfaces, clean mirrors and windows, and sanitise bins.. These tasks help maintain a safe, clean and healthy home environment that supports the participant’s wellbeing and independence.

2. Bathroom & Toilet Cleaning

If you cannot clean your bathroom because of your disability, the NDIS may fund support for this. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) says the support must help you live safely and independently. It includes cleaning the shower, bathtub and sink, washing the toilet, cleaning tiles, and replacing items like toilet paper or soap.

3. Kitchen Cleaning & Maintenance

Kitchen cleaning is also funded under your NDIS plan. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) states that support must be reasonable and necessary and directly related to your disability. This includes:

  • Wiping countertops and cabinets
  • Cleaning appliances like the stove or microwave
  • Checking and removing expired food from the fridge
  • Taking out the rubbish
  • Organising pantry shelves.

4. Laundry & Ironing

NDIS funding for laundry support if your disability makes it hard for you to wash and manage your clothes safely. According to the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), this type of help must be related to your disability and included in your approved plan. This support includes:

  • Washing and drying clothes and linens folding
  • Ironing and putting away garments and towels
  • Hanging clothes on lines or racks (to dry safely).

5. Changing Bed Linen

If your disability makes changing bed sheets difficult, the NDIS may fund support for this task. The NDIA states that supports must relate to your disability and help you live safely and comfortably at home.

NDIS Domestic Assistance includes removing and replacing sheets, pillowcases, and blankets, making the bed, and adjusting bedding for seasonal needs. Clean bedding supports hygiene, comfort, and quality sleep, especially if you’re unable to manage it independently.

6. Dishwashing & Kitchen Clean-Up

The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) states that support must be reasonable and necessary and included in your approved plan. They help you cover washing dishes by hand, loading and unloading the dishwasher, wiping tables and stovetops after cooking, and putting away clean dishes.

A clean kitchen prevents contamination and pests.

7. Meal Preparation Support

Besides that, the NDIS fund support for basic meal preparation. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) says this support must be related to your disability and included in your plan under daily living supports.

Meal preparation supports chopping vegetables and fruit, cooking simple meals with supervision, dividing leftovers into portions, storing food safely, and preparing meals that meet your dietary needs. The goal is to help you eat safely, stay healthy, and build skills for more independence in the kitchen.

8. Grocery Shopping Assistance

This support focuses on helping you get the items you need in a safe and practical way. It includes planning a shopping list, getting help at the supermarket or with online orders, carrying heavy bags, unpacking groceries at home, and putting items away properly. The goal is to make sure you have enough food and daily essentials while helping you stay as independent as possible.

9. Organising & Decluttering

A tidy and organised home can make daily life safer and less stressful. With this type of help, a support worker can organise cupboards and wardrobes, remove unwanted items, sort and arrange important documents, and make sure walkways are clear and safe. The main aim is to create a clean, safe space where you can move around easily and find things without trouble.

10. Garden & Yard Maintenance

Keeping your garden and yard tidy is important for safety and comfort. If your disability makes outdoor work difficult, you may receive support to help manage these tasks.

Supporters from Holistic Futures help you mow the lawn, trim grass edges, pull out weeds, prune small shrubs, and clear leaves from paths. A well-maintained yard helps prevent trips and falls, keeps entryways clear, and makes your home environment safer and more pleasant to live in.

Why Household & Personal Support Matters

Getting help with household and personal tasks is not just about cleaning or chores; it has a real impact on daily life. When your home is safe and your routine is well managed, everything becomes easier and less stressful.

Holistic Futures helps you stay independent and continue living safely at home. It reduces the risk of slips, falls, and health problems caused by an unclean environment. Having the right support protects your dignity, improves your well-being, and supports better physical and mental health.

Who Can Access These Supports?

To get help with daily household tasks through Assistance with Daily Life under Core Supports, a participant generally needs all of the following:

  • An active NDIS plan: you must already be accepted as an NDIS participant and have funding allocated in your plan for daily living supports, such as household tasks, cleaning or similar assistance. This falls under the Assistance with Daily Life category in the Core Supports budget.
  • Cannot safely do tasks: you must find it difficult or unsafe to complete tasks like cleaning, cooking, laundry or shopping on your own because of your disability or medical condition.
  • Need the assistance to be reasonable and necessary: the help must be directly related to your disability and needed for you to live safely and more independently at home. It has to be included in your approved plan and align with your goals.

How to Add Household & Personal Support to Your Plan

  • Discussing your needs at the plan meeting: Tell your planner exactly which chores you struggle with (e.g. cleaning, laundry, shopping) and why.
  • Providing evidence: Ask your occupational therapist or other professionals to write a letter or report explaining how your disability prevents these tasks.
  • Requesting a plan review: During your review, ask for “Assistance with Daily Life” support to be included under Core Supports. Emphasise how home support is needed for your goals.
